John, like Nick, had a rough childhood growing up. Home wasn't as it seemed, he was always having problems at school as a young child with bullies. Nick took joy in beating the living daylights out of them for messing with his brother, and John didn't like the feeling not being able to fight his own fights. Not to mention when he would talk to a school counselor or teacher, they would pass the information onto their parents.

When he was around 14 or 15 years old, he tried killing himself with his father's rifle. Lucky for him that Nick wasn't that good in science; Nick came into John's room and saw what he was trying to do. After wrestling his brother, John eventually gave up. The next day, Nick had led John to the local church, sure that John could trust the Priest, due to silence of the confessional.

John then started to work in the church and he also spent most of his free time there. He tries to help anyone that stumbles into his church much as he can and tries to always have an open mind. It is known, that to this day, John is trying to get over his hate against vampires...mainly Va'Shanna and Angel. It is also known that he never approved of his brother joining the Navy OR joining The Company, because of all the violence.

In February of 2003, he started to doubt his faith, and he laid in bed with Angel (nothing else mind you)...making a majoir inner conflict within himself to take place. In March, he was attacked by a clan of werepanthers, and the female werepanther dug claws into him, making him into one. His relationship with Angel has grown into deeper levels.
