Background:

There's not much known about Murdock, no one's even sure that his real name is Murdock or not. Most people that come into contact with him at first find that despite he's very open and friendly, something isn't exactly right with him in the head. Everyone thinks he's crazy and gullible, although Va'Shanna and Nick know different.

Murdock was found when he was attempting to hijack a plane that Nick was taking to rescue V from a situation. Instead of doing away with Murdock or using him as food for V, Nick became rather friendly and comfortable with Murdock—-soon building a friendship with him. Which in turn, he gained V's protection from him helping her stay alive and not spreading her secret around (surprisingly, V was unable to manipulate his mind to make him forget about what her true nature was).

Eventually, he spent more time with them, and on one occasion, when he was alone with V, it was discovered that his sister was murdered while he was in the military, while also finding out his mother was murdered in front of his eyes when he was six years old. V offered, after helping him confront his past, to block off these memories for him, but he didn't take her offer, telling her that it was something that he needed to know and those were the few memories he still had of them, thus earning more respect in V's eye.

He's come around to getting to know Angel and John, and a few others that have travelled and knew V, and all the while his cloak of deception carries. Everyone thinks he's just a mindless, funny, and crazy man that's only handy for flying them around, but no one truly knows what he's capable of--not even himself.
