Tesa Heather Callaghn, an Irish sorceress, had been feared by many of the villagers due to some believing that she was such a thing. Several times they tried to strike her down, to do anything to rid themselves of the reincarnation of Satan. Yet, when Tesa was 23, Turk forces kidnapped her. She used her "powers" to drain their life force out of them to power herself, and with that, she gained freedom.

In the winter of 1440, she traveled to Romania where she met a rich man, Sanchez Villa-Lobos Remirez, an Egyptian (was often mistaken for being Spanish), and seduced him; wanting a child to carry on her family's "gift" of magic. Indeed, she soon become pregnant and even married him.

With people starting to search for her there, both her and Sanchez had traveled back to Galway, Ireland; Tesa wanting her daughter born in Ireland. Five days after she had given birth to her children, naming one Caoilte and the other Syeira, she had been attacked in the night by a vampire, drained, and left for dead. Sanchez, finding her dead body, burned her and separated her head from the rest of her body to make sure she wouldn't rise again. With her ashes, he had buried them in a secured location, on holy ground.

Knowing that his new children would probably be killed if she was stuck with him, he "threw" them away in an alley on the 22nd of January and left Ireland. Syeira survived by the local whores taking care of her, feeding her what food they had to give. She never knew of her sibling.

When she was six years old, she was with a deadly sickness. Fortunately enough for her, her father, now known as just Whistler, came back and took care of her. They had stayed in Ireland until she was at least ten, she learned the Celtic and Gaelic languages. He had moved her around all the time. Outside of Ireland, he was still rich and for this he didn't let anyone know, especially in Ireland, in fear that he and/or Va'Shanna would be killed by the villagers because of his richness.

During all his time of teaching her how to fight, giving her somewhat of an education, he never told her that he was her real father, nor the truth of her mother. She only knew that her mother was murdered by a vampire and that she was a great woman.

When she was about the age of fifteen, she had her first encounter with a vampire. Amazingly enough, she survived the attack until she was 19, Remirez died from meeting up with a creature named Jared. She was supposed to die in the alley from blood loss. But, fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your point of view, she didn't die. Va'Shanna Remirez turned vampire. Jared came back for her, and had her kill Whistler before taking her back to his castle in Romania and dominated her and made her do what he said, when he said, also making her his bed slave. He manipulated her, tortured her, and basically tore her mind open to lose all humanity and innocence that was left, and both slaughtered men, women, and children for pleasure and out of cold blood. [*Note: He forced her to learn several languages, including Russian, Romanian, German, Latin, Spanish, and French. Just for the record, she knows her home language of Irish and Gaelic.]

By 1601, however, still a killing machine, she left Jared and fled to England. She grew bored of England fast, and she toured through several countries including, Germany, Italy, Russia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and finally settled in Paris, France for a while. There, she owned an amazing and quite large mansion. Meets Aloysius Yves Saint de Lorraine, vampire. After getting to know this man after a while, he trained her how to use her sword further more, and they had gotten involved with another quite deeply. Through Aloysius, he had curved her black heart just a little. When 1701 rolled around, she was well on her way by herself again, still killing and reigning in darkness.

For the first time in 1702, she made her first vampire, which was Kitrina Liam (Angel). After several events occurred and seeing Aloysius Yves Saint de Lorraine again in 1898, Remirez started to come to her senses, and she was dismayed by how many victims she had kill in cold blood. That was the time she started to keep pig/cow's blood in wine bottles and didn't kill another human in cold blood. Yet she still used her fangs from time to time to finish off most of her victims, such as 1941 when she was saving Jews, and she killed Nazis.

During those time periods she took up several assassin/bounty hunter jobs that ran approximately till late 1997.

In 1997, Va'Shanna meets Nick Vari, who has taken up the contract on her.

Met back up with Angel around 1998/9 in a local bar. Caught up on a few things with her, and learned that her 'apprentice' (couldn't resist J) had made a few vampires herself. Same year she met a friend and lover of Angel's named Maverick. -- Late in 2001, the two broke up.

Fall of 2001, she learned that, Whistler, was in fact her real father, and he didn't die in 1460, but became a vampire to haunt her and to try to drive her insane. She had to kill her own father to save Nick, his brother, and Murdock.

15th of July, 2002, she formally married Nicholas Vari. She dropped her last name of 'Remirez' for Vari.

New Year’s Day at 12:01A.M., Nick died in her arms.
